Tax Appeals

Up-coming events:

In October 2012, the City of Stamford will revalue all Stamford real estate for the first time since 2007, to determine the valuation applied to all properties for the next five years. Property owners in Stamford should be ready to address the City's approach to valuing their properties and to appeal the revaluations if necessary. Under Connecticut law, owners of both residential and commercial property have the right to appeal their tax assessments. Excessive assessments can force property owners to pay significantly higher taxes than they should. It may be possible to reduce the tax assessment, but only if the required filings are timely made. Tax appeals have strict filing requirements and deadlines. Failure to meet these rules and deadlines can mean automatic dismissal of an owner's protest. Because there are rigid deadlines for protecting the owners' right of appeal, it is critical that owners are prepared to respond to the revaluation process. Our litigation attorneys are ready to tackle the October 2012 revaluation and handle all tax appeals, known in some states as ad valorem tax appeals or tax certiorari proceedings. Our litigation attorneys utilize their legal experience while our staff assists to make certain no clients miss any deadline. Our Firm promptly processes the information from our clients, answers client questions and provides representation during administrative review, pre-trial negotiation and, if necessary, court trial.
